CAN ANYBODY SEE GOD? "I want to know Christ - to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death." Philippians 3:10 A small boy once approached his slightly older sister with a question about God. "Susie, can anybody ever really see God?" he asked. Busy with other things, Susie curtly replied: "No, of course not silly. God is so far up in heaven that nobody can see him." Time passed, but his question still lingered so he approached his mom: "Mom, can anybody ever really see God?" "No, not really," she gently said. "God is a spirit and he dwells in our hearts, but we can never really see Him." Somewhat satisfied but still wondering, the youngster went on his way. Not long afterwards, his saintly old grandfather took the little boy on a fishing trip. They were having a great time together - it had been an ideal day. The sun was beginning to set with unusual splendor as the day ended. The old man stopped fishing and turned his full attention to the exquisite beauty unfolding before him. On seeing the face of his grandfather reflecting such deep peace and contentment as he gazed into the magnificent ever-changing sunset, the little boy thought for a moment and finally spoke hesitatingly: "Granddad, I - I - wasn't going to ask anybody else, but I wonder if you can tell me the answer to something I've been wondering about a long time - can anybody - can anybody ever really see God?". The old man did not even turn his head. A long moment slipped by before he finally answered. "Son," he quietly said. "It's getting so I can't see anything else." From The Daily Encourager

WEEKEND HAPPENINGS - July 11-14 Hello Church Family, Welcome to the end of another wonderful week filled with God's blessings! May this coming Sabbath be filled with God's blessings as we meet together on His Special Sabbath Day! Take a look at what is happening this weekend at TLC. TLC SOFTBALL TEAM: Thursday Nights. Our next game is TONIGHT @ 8:20 pm at the RAC, Field 2, on Marvin Road. Come out and cheer us on. SABBATH MORNING PRAYER GROUP: We invite all who feel called to pray for a Holy Spirit filled church, to join the morning prayer group each Sabbath morning at 9:10 in the classroom behind the sanctuary. "The Holy Spirit helps us in our inability or "weakness" of not knowing how or what to pray for. He completely swallows up our weak groaning of intercession in His mighty groaning of intercession." From Christ's Way to Pray by Philip Samaan. Please consider joining us as we pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Sabbath morning. SABBATH SCHOOL BIBLE STUDY starts at 9:30 a.m. for all ages. We'd love for you to join one of our adult classes. Kent & Weslyn are leading a study on the Harmonized Gospels in the Sanctuary, and Marlin Meharry is heading up a Mission Driven Sabbath School class and using the quarterly. All adult classes are meeting in the sanctuary together from 9:30-10 am, then separating for Bible study. The kid's divisions learn about Jesus through songs, Bible stories and crafts. Come join us and experience Jesus' love! OUR WORSHIP SERVICE this Sabbath starts at 11:00 am. Pastor Mark will be continuing his sermon series on the theme Search and Rescue . His sermon this Sabbath is titled "Who Is Looking for the Coin?" A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Merilyn Montgomery, mother to Brad Steik, will be held here at Transformation Life Center this Sabbath, July 13 @ 2:00 pm. Please pray for God’s comfort for her family and friends during this time. UPCOMING EVENTS AND OTHER INFORMATION: BELL CHOIR DIRECTOR FUNDRAISER UPDATE: We have raised $1400 of the $7,000 needed. There have been people that have said they plan to donate and to those people and any others who feel impressed, I encourage you to donate as soon as possible. You may go online to ocssda.org, put it in a tithe envelope marked bells, send it to the school or call Sharron Schwartz at 805-890-7237 and she will meet you at the school. We believe the Lord is leading us to continue the program but He has many ways to speak and you are one of those ways. We are listening. If He wants us to continue to celebrate this 25th year of bells at OCS then He will provide. If He has other plans, we don't want to miss them. CHURCH POTLUCK - Our potluck next Sabbath, July 20 will be a finger foods / picnic style on the front lawn of the church, due to our kitchen renovations. VBS: This year's program is Yee-Haw and will be held August 4 and 5 from 5:30-8:00 pm, for ages 3-12. Saddle up for some trailblazing fun! A PRAYER FOR THE ENEMY "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you." Matthew 5:44 The first statement Jesus made from the cross was, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do" (Luke 23:34). Maybe we would have understood it more if He had said, "Father, condemn them," or "Father, judge them." But the first thing Jesus said from the cross was a prayer for His enemies: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Jesus was practicing what He preached. Remember, in the Sermon on the Mount He said, "Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you" (Matthew 5:44). And Jesus also was fulfilling a Messianic prophesy. Isaiah 53, written hundreds of years before Christ died, said that the Messiah would make intercession for the transgressors. And that is exactly what Jesus was doing. He was interceding for all the people who played a role in His death. Pilate himself knew Jesus was innocent. He said, "I find no fault in this Man" (Luke 23:4). But because he was so concerned about his career and position, he would not pardon Jesus and let Him go. The religious rulers knew that no legitimate charge could be brought against Christ. Even the Roman centurion at the cross said, "Truly this Man was the Son of God!" (Mark 15:39). Judas Iscariot knew he had done wrong, saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood" (Matthew 27:4). So Jesus was essentially saying, "Father, forgive them. They don't realize how bad this is. Forgive them, because they need forgiveness so desperately. Forgive them, for they have committed a sin that is beyond all comprehension. Forgive them, for they have done something that is beyond bad. Father, forgive them." When was the last time you prayed for your enemies? Greg Laurie From The Daily Encourager

"YOUR WILL" During the late 50's and early 60's, a man by the name of Bobby Richardson played second base for the NY Yankees. Bobby Richardson was nominated as MVP of the American League nine times. He played in seven All-star Games. He won five Gold Glove Awards. And he was the only man in baseball history to ever win the World Series MVP Award while playing for the losing team. In the later years of Bobby Richardson's career, he coached the baseball team at Liberty University. The reason such a great player was willing to coach at a Christian university was because Bobby Richardson was himself a committed follower of Jesus Christ. During a speech at a meeting of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Bobby Richardson was called upon to pray and here is his prayer: "Dear God, Your will, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. Amen." May that be your prayer today... "Dear God, Your will, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. Amen." From The Daily Encourager
PRAYER Dear Lord, I thank You for this day, I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. And give the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak... Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those that are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those who don't believe. Because I believe that you, My Lord, change people and you change things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace , love and joy in their homes. I pray you provide their every need I pray that every one will know there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than you. FREEDOM IS A CHOICE "Choose you this day whom ye will serve . . . as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15) In America, every year July 4th brings with it festivities, fun, food, family and friends, and fireworks—all as a celebration of national freedom. But even with all the celebrating and fun, many Americans are still caught in the web of bondage on a mental, emotional, relational, financial, vocational or spiritual level. Most often, we ourselves create the chains that bind us by making poor or sinful choices. The longer I live, the more convinced I am that life is a series of choices, each choice has a consequence, and we must live with the consequences of our choices. In order to have true freedom in your life, then, you must make wise choices. Will you choose good over evil (Psalm 34:14; Romans 12:21)? Obedience over rebellion (Proverbs 10:8; Hebrews 13:17)? Truth over deceit (Colossians 3:9; Proverbs 12:22)? Kindness over dishonor (Ephesians 4:32; Proverbs 14:2)? Every day you make hundreds of choices and these form the basis for your lifestyle. Seek God’s wisdom in all of your decisions, not the wisdom of the world, the flesh or the devil (James 3:17). Take the sometimes difficult step of saying, “I’ll do it God’s way!” even though it may mean avoiding the easy road. In the long run, the freedom that comes with making godly choices is definitely something to celebrate! BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS At the zoo, a man watched as an attendant entered a wildcat cage through a door on the opposite side. He had nothing in his hands but a broom. Carefully closing the door, he proceeded to sweep the floor of the cage. The onlooker observed that the worker had no weapon to ward off an attack by the beast. In fact, when he got to the corner of the cage where the wildcat was lying, he poked the animal with the broom. The wildcat hissed at him and then lay down in another corner of the enclosure. He remarked to the attendant, "You certainly are a brave man." "No I ain't brave," he replied as he continued to sweep. "Well, then, that cat must be tame." "No," came the reply, "he ain't tame." "If you aren't brave and the wildcat isn't tame, then I can't understand why he doesn't attack you." The man chuckled, then replied with an air of confidence, "Mister, he's old -- and he ain't got no teeth." Some situations don't require much courage. Others, however, require a great deal of courage. Take, for example, the choice Daniel was given -- stop praying to God or face the hungry lions (which weren't toothless!). Or Moses -- live a life of luxury in the king's palace, or align himself with God's people. Or Esther -- keep quiet and not cause a commotion, or stand up against evildoers at the risk of losing her life. How we need such courage in our own lives! Courage to stand for the truth regardless of the consequences. Courage to live a life where Christ comes first regardless of what others might think. Courage to confess the name of God to a world which regards us as fools. I am reminded of Joshua who was given a huge responsibility to take over the role of leadership from Moses and lead the children of Israel into the land of Canaan to face a host of enemies. Three times in Joshua 1, God said to Joshua, "Be strong and of good courage". Those can be empty words spoken to a man who is trembling in his boots, but God gave Joshua a basis for his courage -- "Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9). Joshua's strength and courage had to be found in God alone, because it was God who was going to do all the work. There was nothing that was going to take place in the life of Joshua or in the lives of the children of Israel that God would not be involved in. Every step that Joshua took, every piece of land that he claimed, every battle that he won would be the direct result of God working for him. Joshua could have courage for what was about to take place because as long as he was following God's will, God was there by his side. What challenges are you facing today? What fears do you have? "Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the LORD." (Psa. 31:24) From The Daily Encourager
